Refuge staff and planners from the Division of  Conservation Planning hosted an open house, at the Seney NWR, August 15, as part of an effort to learn what neighbors, local communities and others think about the future management of the Refuge.  

The event was well publicized in the local area through several newspaper articles and a piece on a television news program in Marquette, Michigan.  Ten people came to talk with refuge staff about the CCP.  In addition, dozens of refuge visitors attended the event by chance due to the Visitor Center remaining open to the public during a pleasant summer evening.

A similar event was held for the Kirtland’s Warbler Wildlife Management Area, August 17, at the Kirtland House, located on the campus of Kirtland Community College, Michigan.  

The Kirtland’s Warbler WMA is jointly managed by the Seney Refuge and Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) under a Memorandum of Understanding.  The Kirtland’s WMA consists of 125 separate tracts, totaling 6,684 acres, located throughout eight counties in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan.  The Service tracts are surrounded by Michigan DNR state forests that are designated to be managed to benefit Kirtland's Warblers.
