Volunteers Help Biologists at Chesapeake Marshlands National Wildlife Refuge Complex
Northeast Region, September 28, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Volunteers work extremely hard assisting biological staff of the Chesapeake Marshlands National Wildlife Refuge Complex which includes the Blackwater, Eastern Neck and Martin refuges as well as several other refuge divisions.  Volunteers have located and mapped distributions of invasive species, assisted with bald eagle counts, amphibian call counts, marsh bird surveys, Delmarva Fox Squirrel trapping and a host of other activities.  Volunteers conduct water quality and salinity level monitoring throughout Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.  They have also assisted with fisheries sampling during 2006.  One person volunteers to work every Tuesday helping biological staff enter data and providing administrative support.  Without the volunteers, the complex could not accomplish nearly as much biological work.  In addition, volunteers have eager and positive personalities that bring vital energy to the refuge complex.
