Midwest Region, March 15, 2006
Print Friendly Version

In March 2006, the Bloomington Field Office, Indiana, and Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, working through the Indiana Biodiversity Initiative, delivered the final report entitled: Biodiversity Conservation Possibilities and Threat Assessment for the Indiana Lake Michigan Coastal Management Program: an update and analysis of part of the Northwest Morainal Natural Region assessment of the Indiana Biodiversity Initiative to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The delivery culminated approximately one year of analysis concerning the biological diversity of northwest Indiana.  The work relied heavily on a Geographic Information System but also involved a significant field component as dozens of sites were ground-truthed during the summer of 2005.

The report developed a detailed evaluation of terrestrial diversity and a threat assessment, as well as, a detailed recommendation for the development of an aquatic diversity analysis assessment tool.

The IDNR Lake Michigan Coastal Program plans to use the results of the report to help them identify high priority conservation projects to fund
