Midwest Region, August 22, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Carterville Fishery Resources Office assisted in the planning and execution of an International Symposium on the Invasive Asian Carps in North America.  The two-day symposium, in Peoria, Illinois, included speakers from Australia, Canada, China, and throughout the United States.

Illinois State Senator Mike Jacobs (D-36th district) and Illinois State Representatives David Leitch (R-73rd district) and Jim Watson (R-97th district) also addressed attendees to show their support for managing and controlling these invasive fishes.

Carterville FRO fishery biologist, Greg Conover, who Chairs an Asian Carp Working Group for the Service and Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force, gave opening remarks and discussed the draft ‘National Management and Control Plan for Asian Carps in the United States.'

Carterville FRO also developed and provided three poster presentations for the symposium.

The symposium proved to be a productive forum for both the formal and informal exchange of current information relative to the various aspects of management and control of Asian carps.
