Science Support Research Projects funded in FY 2007

Each year the USGS Biological Resources Division provides funds to Region 3 to address Regional research and information needs through the Scince Support Program. The Regional Research Committee has finished the review of the Science Support Projects (SSP) submitted for funding through USGS. We received 17 projects totaling nearly $545,000, however the Region only has about $93,000 available for SSP projects in FY 2007. 

TITLE: Effects of commercial harvest on shovelnose sturgeon. FWS PROJECT OFFICER: Mike Oetker, Division of Fisheries, Regional Office.

TITLE: A survey of eastern massasauga, Sistrurus catenatus catenatus, in the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. FWS PROJECT OFFICER: James Nissen, Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, LaCrosse District.

TITLE: Development of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers for rapid, inexpensive, and standardized identification of pallid and shovelnose sturgeon larvae. FWS PROJECT OFFICER: Tracy Hill, Columbia Fisheries Resource Office, Columbia, Missouri.

TITLE: Topeka shiner nitrite toxicity testing. FWS PROJECT OFFICER: Mike Coffey, Ecological Services, Rock Island, Illinois.
