The Lower Ohmer Lake Campground within Kenai National Wildlife Refuge was upgraded recently and is now open again to the visiting public.  The popular camping area is located in the Skilak Wildlife Recreation Area approximately a half hour drive from either Cooper Landing or Sterling and is used year-round for camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing.  The existing three campsites were rehabilitated, the handicap accessible site now has a hard surface access trail, and a new walk-in site was constructed.  All sites were given new concrete picnic tables and fire rings.  A new information kiosk greets visitors.  There is no fee for use of the Lower Ohmer Lake sites and they are especially popular with campers who seek small, secluded, yet road accessible camping areas.  For more information about camping on Kenai National Wildlife Refuge contact the Refuge at (907) 262-7021 or go to kenai.fws.gov.
