YCC Completes Extension of Loess Bluff Hiking Trail
Midwest Region, July 28, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Thanks to the four YCC youth working at Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge this summer, the Loess Bluff hiking trail was renovated and an extension added.

All of the old wooden rails and posts on the trail that were installed in 1990 were replaced with recycled plastic posts and rails.  In addition, the trail was extended across the rest of the bluff and tied into the Callow Memorial Trail, making the Loess Bluff Trail now 0.9 miles long and a loop trail.

This development was a recommendation in the April 2003 Visitors Services Enhancement Review.  In addition, a traffic counter was also installed permitting the Refuge to get a better handle on the use of the trail.
