The month of August 2006 was busy for the Treasure Lake Job Corps Interns and EE Specialist Randy Hale and Nick Plata. In August we gave presentations to nine thousand forty-four (9,044) participants in on and off-site programs.  Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge participated in the second annual Oklahoma Wildlife Expo at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma, for the second consecutive year. We, with the assistance of the Envirothon Team and Treasure Lake Job Corps Intern Nicholas LeDoux, shared information on aquatic invertebrates and the refuge with nine thousand five-hundred visitors (9,500); one impromptu class for twenty (20) members of the Comanche Nation Youth Program         

 

Jim Callaway and Dr. Crockover held a conference call with Claudine Daniel on August 8th to plan a Math and Science Teacher Workshop funded by NSF for 2007. 

 

August 10th Jim Callaway met with Claudine Daniel to review the teacher videos and assessments developed during the Math and Science workshop in June.  Claudine will use the results for the EE Methods Course at NCTC September 11 through 14. 

 

Claudine Daniel met with Patti Cargill, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Lawton Public Schools, Cynthia Walker, Director of Curriculum Instruction Lawton Public Schools and Susan Holt, Director of Instructional Training Lawton Public Schools at the Visitor Center on August 11th and 21st.  The meetings planned and developed the Bison Centennial activities and curriculum.  The kick off for the participant hosts will be held on October 11, 2006 at the Visitor Center.

 

The annual dam safety inspection with Regional and Washington Dam Safety Officer was conducted in August.  An emergency action plan exercise was also conducted on Comanche and Gramma Dams.
