On August 26th, the Friends of the 500th and Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge in West Virginia dedicated a plaque to mark the spot where the historical Fairfax line crosses a refuge trail.  The Friends of the 500th coordinated this event which drew approximately fifty people.  Refuge Manager Stan Skutek gave opening remarks and was followed by the dedication speaker, Robert Leffler, who is a direct descendent of Peter Jefferson, father of Thomas Jefferson.  Peter Jefferson was part of the Fairfax survey crew.
