Stocking ofAtlantic Salmon Fry intothe Pleasant River
Northeast Region, May 5, 2006
Print Friendly Version
Poor ocean survival and other environmental problems have depressed wild population of Atlantic salmon in the Pleasant River to the point of listing under the Endangered Species Act. In support of the recovery goals of the Atlantic Salmon Recovery Plan Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery holds river specific Atlantic salmon broodstock for the Pleasant River and produces eggs, fry and smolts for stocking  Craig Brook Hatchery transferred 50,000 Pleasant River eggs to the Wild Salmon Resource Center in Columbia Falls for education purposes and stocking. This year Craig Brook Hatchery liberated 244,619 river specific fry into the Pleasant River on April 26 and 27, 2006. Both stocking trips were coordinated and implemented with the Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission. Also this year the Craig Brook Hatchery stocked 13,871 smolts on May 2, 3 and 4, 2006 into the Pleasant River.  The hatchery notified special agents Holmes and Rothe about the stocking of smolts.
