Fry Stocking of the Sheepscot River
Northeast Region, April 24, 2006
Print Friendly Version
Poor ocean survival and other environmental problems have depressed wild population of Atlantic salmon in the Sheepscot River to the point of listing under the Endangered Species Act. In support of the recovery goals of the Atlantic Salmon Recovery Plan, Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery in Maine holds river specific Atlantic salmon broodstock for the Sheepscot River and produces eggs and fry for stocking. This year Craig Brook Hatchery liberated 152,988 river specific fry in the Sheepscot River on April 21 and 24, 2006. Both stocking trips were coordinated and implemented with Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission.
