Friends of Erie National Wildlife Refuge Receive Mentoring Visit
Northeast Region, August 5, 2006
Print Friendly Version

The Friends of Erie National Wildlife Refuge in Pennsylvania received a visit from one of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Friends Initiative Mentoring Teams. Rob Jess, project leader from Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, and Kathy Woodward, volunteer from Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge led the group through a team exercise, helping them focus on refuge needs and opportunities for involvement. Rob and Kathy visited with refuge staff and toured the refuge prior to the day long meeting with the Friends group. The visit resulted in a group decision to focus on much needed community outreach. At the next regularly scheduled Friends board meeting, the group will begin developing a plan for outreach. A possible joint project for refuge staff and the Friends group is an annual refuge open house special event. All those involved felt the visit had tremendous value for the Refuge and the future of the Friends organization.
