Watson Lake Campground Camp Sites, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, were Recently Upgraded.
Watson Lake Campground Camp Sites, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, were Recently Upgraded.

Kenai Refuge recently completed the rehabilitation of Watson Lake Campground.  The campground, named after Gerald Watson, a Refuge employee lost in a boating accident on Skilak Lake 50 years ago, is a popular stop for people recreating along the Sterling Highway within Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.  Refuge staff upgraded three campsites; improved the entrance road; and added new fire rings, concrete picnic tables, an outhouse, and a new kiosk to provide visitor information.  Additionally, the Refuge relocated the well and handpump to improve water quality.  The Watson Lake Campground is used year-round for camping, fishing, and wildlife viewing.
