The Green Bay Fisheries Resources Office staff recently assisted with the 2006 Sand Lake Conservation Camp in northeastern Wisconsin.  More than 30 kids and adults participated in the one-week event.

Campers enjoyed various sessions including wildlife management, orienteering, forestry, canoeing, aquatic insect studies, invasive species, fisheries management and bird habitat biology. Professionals in each discipline were invited to share personal experiences in their field of expertise.

The Green Bay FRO led the fish session, including a brief overview of basic fish biology, displaying gear used for assessments, a short discussion on typical biologist duties,  closing the week with an electroshocking and fyke netting demonstration.

A highlight from the session was allowing the top camper to ‘fly’ the Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) out to the fyke net pot and inspect the catch.
