The Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge annually celebrates International Migratory Bird Day in conjunction with the Alva, Oklahoma schools. An outdoor day was done where 1st graders went through several stations learning about how to identify birds, bird adaptations, creating easy bird feeders, going bird watching and an art project - this year, origami chick heads.

The refuge participates in teaching bird adaptations, such as learning how different beaks work and how and what different types of birds eat. Also included is the art project, which was this year done by our SCA intern from Japan.  Approximately 75 kids participated in the event.
