Private Lands Agreement Executed to Restore Riparian Area Along the San Francisco River on Private Lands in Southwestern New Mexico
Southwest Region, May 7, 2006
Print Friendly Version

The Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program in New Mexico funded habitat restoration work on private lands along the San Francisco River between Reserve and Glenwood, in Catron County, New Mexico.  The project involves the construction of approximately 3,500 linear feet of fencing to exclude livestock access to the private lands from the adjacent U.S. Forest Service grazing allotment that surrounds the property.  Exclusion of livestock will improve water quality, riparian vegetation establishment and growth, and reduce stream bank erosion.  The landowner is also willing to have his property surveyed for the threatened Chiricahua leopard frog and loach minnow.
