Biological Opinion for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Proposed Carlsbad Project Operations for 10 Years, Pecos River, New Mexico
Southwest Region, May 18, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Staff from the Aquatic Ecosystem Branch of the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office, Fish and Wildlife Service, completed a biological opinion for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's proposed Carlsbad Project operations that addresses water operations from August 2006 through August 2016.  The project is located on the Pecos River between Santa Rosa and Brantley Reservoirs in eastern New Mexico.  The proposed project is for water deliveries for irrigation districts and water deliveries to satisfy the Pecos Compact.  The biological opinion, a requirement of the Endangered Species Act, analyzed the effects of water operations on the threatened Pecos bluntnose shiner and its designated critical habitat and the endangered interior least tern.  Participation by the New Mexico Fishery Resources Office of the Fish and Wildlife Service, provided valuable data and scientific expertise to address the Pecos bluntnose shiner.
