Journal Entry   Back MIGRATORY BIRD DAY Southwest Region, May 4, 2006 Print Friendly Version Several staff members from the Corpus Christi Ecological Services Field Office (CCESFO) participated in the “Migration Stewardship: Beyond Borders” event held at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) in Austwell, Texas.  Approximately 120 fourth grade students and their teachers from several school districts visited the CCESFO booth.  The topic presented by the CCESFO was “Migration Obstacles”.  The students discussed various obstacles (cell towers, wind farms, skyscrapers, etc…) that birds may collide with especially during their migration.  The students also played “Migration Croquet” where they had to guide their bird (the croquet ball) through various miniature hazards to reach a forest at the end of the migration pathway.  Teachers were provided with additional materials that could be used in the classroom.  In addition to the Fish and Wildlife Service representation by Refuge and CCESFO staff, representatives from Padre Island National Seashore (National Park Service), Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas Zoo, Texas State Aquarium, and Center for Coastal Studies from Texas A&M University presented educational activities and materials at their booths.     Contact Info: Martin Valdez, 505-248-6599, martin_valdez@fws.gov Send to: From: Notes: ..........................................................................................
