KENAI: Shorebird Fans Flock for Spring Celebration
Alaska Region, May 13, 2006
Print Friendly Version
A two-day Kenai Shorebird Celebration brought approximately 60 participants together to learn about shorebirds that visit the central Kenai Peninusla.  The workshop was sponsored by the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Soldotna Bird Club, and Kenai Watershed Forum.  The event included both classroom activities and field birding expeditions.  Refuge Biological Technicians Todd Eskelin and Toby Burke shared their many years of birding experience to help people distinquish between hard to identify species, such as the differences between Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs or western and semipalmated sandpipers.  Field trips yielded sightings of 17 different shorebird species.
