The refuge conducted a youth turkey hunt on March 31 through April 2, 2006.  Six kids were present for the hunt, all between the ages of 12 to 14 years old.  Three of the six youth were successful in harvesting a turkey.  A meal was provided following a hunt briefing held on the first day.  All of the youth participating in the hunt were allowed to shoot and pattern their shotguns prior to the hunt, and prizes were given to the best shooters.  The refuge partnered with Bass Pro Shops of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to draw two of the youth for the hunt.
