Refuge staff eliminated 3 feral hogs this month. There has been increased activity near the newly installed hog traps, but few have dared to enter. WB Lomas completed the first draft of the Hog Management Plan.

As part of our effort in hurricane preparedness, MW Carroll completed the electrical hookup from the government bunkhouse to the Butler storage building. This building did not have electricity but can now be used as a backup maintenance area complete with generator in the event of power failures due to hurricanes or major storm event common to the area.

Refuge staff and volunteers staffed a booth at the Liberty Jubilee on 25 March. Due to great weather and booth location, the event was an absolute success. We counted 639 folks that visited the booth which was DOUBLE from last year. We ran out of coloring books, book marks, and Blue Goose tattoos for the kids. Many adults were interested in refuge programs and picked up various brochures.  A total of 17 volunteers helped staff the booth from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.

State Game Warden Diaz has reported that the poaching of hogs has increased in the County over the last 30 days and that it is strong possibility that the poaching has occurred o the Cohen/Daniel/Ming Tracts of the refuge. PR Blessington will be working with the Game Warden and the local landowners to help tract down the individuals.
