Print Friendly Version
Arizona Ecological Services biologist John Nystedt and Nick Carrillo participated in the quarterly meeting of the interagency SWESA Team on March 15 to 16, 2006, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  The team met to develop actions to improve implementation of the Endangered Species Act with a focus on section 7, and to continue to implement the Long-Term Strategy for Streamlining Consultations (LTS).  Agenda items included: finalizing the list of Issue Resolution Teams for section 7 consultations; transferingf the Team's web page from the Southwest Strategy (SWS) website to the Arizona ES website; planning biological assessment workshops; monitoring implementation of the LTS; drafting our first "Considerations for Making Effect Determinations" document for the Chiricahua leopard frog; developing species accounts for seven species of concern; and reporting on various agency activities.  Steve Helfert presented information on the Department of Defense Legacy Grant Program. We held a BA workshop subteam meeting to discuss revising the workshop in concert with an effort by the National Conservation Training Center and Washington Office to enhance consistency between the BA workshop and the two Interagency Consultation workshops. Our next meeting is scheduled for July 13 to14 in Flagstaff, AZ.
