Trinity Basin Conservation Foundation holds Initial Challenge Meeting
Southwest Region, March 23, 2006
Print Friendly Version
On March 22-23, 2006, Tom Cloud of the Arlington Ecological Services Field Office attended a meeting in Palestine, Texas, of various landowners and public and private entities to discuss and initiate the development of a new grass-roots partnership within the Trinity River Basin of Texas.  The Trinity Basin Conservation Foundation has been formed to address the economic sustainability, ecological integrity, and quality of life within the basin through the development of partnerships, conservation initiatives, and other measures to ensure the welfare of the natural landscape and way of life.  This initiative is being patterned after several successful ventures in Texas and other regions of the country in which private landowners and numerous agencies and non-governmental organizations have come together to address the economic and environmental challenges facing their communities and properties.

Facilitated discussions during the meeting resulted in the refinement of the Foundation’s mission statement, as well as identified key goals, objectives, and activities to be undertaken by the Foundation’s board of directors, membership, and action committees.  Committees on Education and Outreach, Funding and Finance, and Projects will be developing concepts and ideas for action in the near term which will be reported back to the board within the next 60 days.  The Service will play a major advisory role to these committees and provide technical and financial assistance where possible, principally through grants assistance, technical guidance, and delivery of Partners for Fish and Wildlife project funds.
