The refuge radio project was completed on Deep Fork NWR.  Project planning began over 2 years ago and was a coordinated effort between the Refuge, Denver’s Branch of Communications Technology Office, and several contractors.  The completed project  included construction of a130’ self supporting radio tower and quantar repeater station, the installation of a base station and tower at the refuge headquarters, and the installation of eight astro digital spectra mobile radios, and the purchase and programming of five handheld radios.  The completed project enhances communication capabilities between refuge staff, local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and other county, state, and government agencies.
