Boy and Girl Scout Program
Southwest Region, February 28, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Bosque del Apache NWR staff and volunteers have been expanding programs for Boy and Girl Scouts through the winter of 2005-06.  Volunteers have developed a program for Boy Scouts that fulfills the requirements for the Bird Study merit badge and includes a Service Project component.  Several troops have participated in this program throughout the winter and the evaluations have come back very positive.  In addition, volunteers and staff worked with the Girl Scouts of Chapparral Council to develop refuge-specific patch and a day-long event for girls throughout northern New Mexico.  More than 40 people attended the event, which included field trips and discussions about migration, careers, and other topics.  The Girl Scout program is being evaluated so that it can be more generally applicable to girls throughout the state.
