The African American Special Emphasis Program Coordinator in conjunction with the Division of Diversity and Civil Rights provided a speaker in observance of Black History Month.  Dr. Charles E. Becknell Sr., EEO Director of Albuquerque Public Schools, spoke to employees about his experiences growing up in Hobbs, New Mexico.  Dr. Becknell spoke of his experience with segregation, racism, and discrimination.  A special note was made regarding the benefits of attending an all Black school with all Black teachers, and the care that was taken to ensure successful learning of the "reading, writing, and figurin'".  Dr. Becknell also spoke of his book, "No Challenge-No Change", which he made available for purchase by all employees.
