WMNWR ASSISTS OKLAHOMA EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM
Southwest Region, January 31, 2006
Print Friendly Version

Refuges and hatcheries in Oklahoma and N. Texas have been in “very high to extreme” fire danger on and off throughout the month of January. Engines and personnel have been on standby late hours and weekends on high fire danger days. WMNWR has assisted with 2 type 6 engines as part of the state emergency response team and detailed a helicopter manager to the Forest Service helibase. WMNWR responded to several large fires off refuge and in the neighboring communities. Tishomingo NWR hosted a taskforce of engines and equipment and responded to several fires threatening the Refuge and local counties. Deep Fork NWR responded with a dozer and an engine to assist the state with fires in their county.
