Refuge Manager Edward Henry and Regional Planner Nancy McGarigal hosted Shawangunk Grasslands National Wildlife Refuge's Comprehensive Conservation Plan comment meeting. The meeting was held on Jan. 17 to update the public and receive input about the plan.  

More than 40 people attended the meeting held a few miles away from the refuge at the Wallkill Hook Ladder and Hose Fire Company. Attendees provided questions and comments about recreational use issues, access, restoration options, partnerships and refuge management.

All of the refuge staff and associated employees participated in the meeting, which went very well. In addition, two other staff members, Mao Lin and Lelaina Marin from the RO made sure the meeting ran flawlessly. Various issues were discussed, including hunting, model airplane flying, biking, tresspass, herbicide application and the status of two-3,000-foot runways. 

The meeting was very cordial and the input was well-received.
