LEWIS AND CLARK REVISIT RIDGEFIELD
Pacific Region, November 4, 2005
Print Friendly Version
November 4 and 5, 2005 marked the first significant bicentennial reenactment events for the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.  On November 4th, reenactors from the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles descended on Frenchman's Bar County Park in Vancouver, WA, located just a few miles from the Corps' 1805 camp site at Post Office Lake now located on Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.  Even though it ws a blustery day, visitors braved the elements to meet the reenactors and learn about their experiences as they travel day-by-day in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark.  On November 5th, at Wapato Portage and the Cathlapotle Plankhouse, the Refuge focused on a variety of activities designed to explore in more depth the events of November 5, 1805, and the natural and cultural world as it was when Lewis and Clark paddled by.  Several hundred visitors took part in the events.
