Private Stewardship Grant Program Benefits the Yellow-billed Cuckoo in New Mexico
Southwest Region, December 9, 2005
Print Friendly Version
The New Mexico Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program staff completed a grant agreement to restore 5.3 miles of an in-stream habitat, 1.2 miles of riparian vegetation, and install 4.7 miles of livestock exclusion fencing along 4 creeks on private land in Sierra County.  The Cooperator, a non-profit institute, was awarded a grant through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), Private Stewardship Grant Program.  The work will benefit the yellow-billed cuckoo (a candidate species for listing under the Endangered Species Act), other declining migratory birds, and species of concern to the Service (i.e., Bell's vireo, Rio Grande chub, Rio Grande sucker).
