Southwestern Carnivore Committee Meeting in Tucson, Arizona, December 6-8, 2005

The New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office (NMESFO) and Southwest Regional Office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service cosponsored the fourth Southwestern Carnivore Committee Meeting in Tucson, Arizona on December 6-8, 2005.  Other sponsors included the U.S. Forest Service, Pima County, Defenders of Wildlife, and Southern Rockies Ecosystem Project.  The meeting/workshop resulted in information sharing on current management, conservation, and research efforts for carnivores in Mexico, California, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico.  The meeting portion of the conference included presentations on the Mexican gray wolf, ocelot, jaguar, black-footed ferret, coati, badgers, and Canada lynx.  The workshop resulted in the development of preliminary design guidelines for structures that would allow safe passage by carnivores across highways.
