Tishomingo Hosts Art Contest for Area Youth to Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week 2005
Southwest Region, October 14, 2005
Print Friendly Version

South-Central Oklahoma area schools have come to anticipate the annual art contest hosted by Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). This year invitations were sent to area schools in both Johnston and Marshall County and over 300 entries were received. Entrants were judged in five categories based on grade level; K-1, 2-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-12. Judges volunteered from the art department at Murray State College (Tishomingo), East Central University (Ada), TREES (Tishomingo Refuge Ecology and Education Society) and were selected based on formal art training and experience. TREES was also the primary sponsor of this year’s event, donating the $500 used to purchase prizes. The theme of this year’s art contest was “Water and Wildlife”, and every participant received a certificate, NWRS bookmark and a participation ribbon. Winning entries were displayed in the Refuge Headquarters for the entire National Wildlife Refuge Week.
