Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge Receives First Public Comments on Comprehensive Plan
Northeast Region, November 8, 2005
Print Friendly Version

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hosted three public meetings in Delaware to hear comments and provide information on a comprehensive conservation planning effort at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge.  The meetings were held on November 8 in Milton, November 9 in Dover, and November 10 in Lewes.  Over 110 people attended the meetings.

The majority of the comments included complaints that the refuge should allow more farming to provide habitat for waterfowl, deer, and other species.  Several attendees were in favor of successional field growth as habitat for plants and non-game species.

Attendees discussed land condemnation issues, loss of hunting opportunities, and their enthusiasm about developing partnerships in the local community to promote natural resource conservation.

Refuge staff is continuing to accept comments from the public.
