Fish From Harrison Lake, Va., HatcheryStocked at100th Anniversary Boy Scout Jamboree Site
Northeast Region, October 28, 2005
Print Friendly Version

In October, the Service stocked 10,000 sub-adult channel catfish in Fish Hook Lake at Fort A. P. Hill, Va.  Fort Hill, a Department of Defense facility, is the site of the 2010 National Scout Jamboree and the 100th anniversary celebration of the Boy Scouts of America.  The stocked catfish averaged 0.3 pound each, and will grow to provide a quality fishing experience for over 34,000 Boy Scouts attending the Jamboree.  This is part of the Service's commitment to provide outdoor education opportunities for America's next generation of recreational anglers.

The stocked fish originated at Watha State Fish Hatchery, a North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission facility, as surplus fingerlings.  In December 2004, after the Watha facility went off-line for renovations, Service personnel and North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission employees moved the fingerlings to Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery in Charles City, Va., where they were reared.
