Journal Entry   Back Tishomingo NWR hosts "Youthful Celebration" as part ofChickasaw Festival and Annual Meeting Southwest Region, September 29, 2005 Print Friendly Version An estimated 400 area seventh and eighth grade students attended the "Youthful Celebration" at Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge from September 27-29, 2005. The event is hosted in conjunction with the Chickasaw Festival and Annual Meeting held each year in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Attendees at the event learned from traditional artists and participated in hands-on activities such as basket weaving, stickball, archery, headdress, corn husk dolls and traditional living. The 3-day event took place at the Refuge’s Pavilion and Public Use Area adjacent to the headquarters. Refuge staff participated assisting with lunch preparations for the students and hosts. Future cooperative efforts between the Chickasaw Nation and Tishomingo NWR are expected.
