Ceremony for the Pueblo of Santa AnaSafe Harbor Agreement, October 14, 2005
Southwest Region, October 14, 2005
Print Friendly Version
On October 14, 2005, a ceremony was jointly conducted by the Pueblo of Santa Ana (Pueblo) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to reaffirm their conservation partnership under the Safe Harbor Agreement finalized between the two agencies on May 20, 2004.  This 25-year incidental take permit pursuant to Section 10(a)(1)(A) of the Endangered Species Act emphasizes the protection and development of natural resources by the Pueblo.  In this agreement, the Pueblo's existing ecosystem approach to natural resource conservation is complemented with measures that specifically address the needs of the endangered Rio Grande silvery minnow (Hybognathus amarus), the endangered southwestern willow flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus), and the threatened bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus).  The Pueblo will voluntarily undertake management activities that enhance, restore, or maintain habitat.
