Fish and Wildlife Service meets with Forest Service in New Mexico and Arizona

For two days (October 12, 13) personnel from the NM and AZ Ecological Services Field Offices, National Wildlife Refuges in Arizona and New Mexico and staff from the Region 2 Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Office, met with Forest Service staff from the various National Forests (FS) in NM and AZ and the Regional Office of the FS at Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge in NM.  The annual meeting addressed coordination of issues in common to the two agencies and also provided valuable information concerning field operations.  Specific subjects discussed included section 7 consultations (Endangered Species Act), FS planning processes, specific description of activities such as the Fire Program, Mexican wolf recovery and law enforcement activities.  The Acting Regional Director for the Southwest Region of the FWS was present and very supportive of this cooperative approach.  The FWS and FS will meet at least annually to coordinate programs and issues in NM and AZ.
