AK PENINSULA/ BECHAROF: 8th Annual Science Camp a Success!
Alaska Region, September 17, 2005
Print Friendly Version

Becharof/Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife Refuge held its 8th Annual Ecosystem Science Camp at Becharof Lake from September 13 through the 17. Eleven students were selected from eight local villages for the week long residential camp. Each year, this camp provides a critical opportunity for local students to gain hands-on experience in refuge management issues and the Becharof Lake ecosystem. Learning modules include bears, birds, aquatic biology, caribou, tundra plants, orienteering and stewardship. Sessions also included the western and traditional philosophies relating to resource issues. This camp is made possible through Refuge partnerships with Lake & Peninsula and Bristol Bay School Districts, Alaska Natural History Association, University of Alaska Fairbanks and Audubon Alaska.
