Wallkill River NWR enters into new cooperative agreement with local agency to improve riverbank habitat and access

Wallkill River NWR completed a cooperative agreement with the Wallkill Watershed Coordinator via the Sussex County Municipal Utlilties Authority to implement a $167,000 grant. Through the cooperative agreement, the watershed coordinator will combine grant funds, Service funds, and its own resources to employ a two-year grant coordinator to implement this project. The employee will work out of the refuge office and be supervised day-to-day by the refuge manager. The primary purpose of this position is to fulfill the objectives set for the grant program, which includes the construction of two canoe ramps and the restoration of 250 feet of riverbank. Secondary goals of the position will include volunteer coordination, watershed and refuge education parterships and grant writing.
