Continued Progress on Mapping Minnesota's Restorable Wetlands
Midwest Region, September 10, 2004
Print Friendly Version

Since 2001, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's HAPET Office has been leading a multi-agency partnership (comprised of over 30 state, local and federal agencies and NGOs) in the delineation of drained, restorable wetlands in Minnesota's agricultural landscapes.  This spatial data will enable development of a multi-agency strategy for wetland restoration.

To date, approximately one-third of the intensively farmed portions of the state have been mapped and digital data produced.  In 2005, new counties mapped included Steele, Waseca, Faribault and Freeborn.  Digital data of restorable wetlands are being served on the Minnesota DNR's data deli web site and on Ducks Unlimited site at http://prairie.ducks.org/index.cfm?&page=minnesota/restorablewetlands/home.htm
