Prescott Mitigation Impact Analysis
Southwest Region, September 15, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Brenda Smith with Arizona Ecological Services Office participated in the bimonthly Prescott Mitigation Impact Analysis (MIA) meeting on September 15, 2005. The purpose of the meeting was to review and discuss recommendations for monitoring wells in the Big Chino Valley, where Prescott plans to develop a well field and import water into the tri-city area. Our concern has been potential effects of this pumping over time on Upper Verde Springs, the headwaters for the Verde River, on critical habitat, and on several listed species. The City agreed to convene the monitoring peer group within the next several months to complete the monitoring plan. The next step for the MIA group will be to discuss feasibility and costs for various mitigation options, as well as priorities and triggers for implementing some of these actions. The next meeting is scheduled for November 17.
