Journal Entry   Back TETLIN: Relationship Between Fire and Small Mammal Diversity Investigated Alaska Region, September 19, 2005 Print Friendly Version Tetlin Refuge, the Land Management Research Demonstration Area for the ecology of fire in the boreal forest, recently began a multi-year project to investigate the distribution and population trend of small mammals across habitats as related to fire and fire severity. Wildland fire is one of the primary forces forming the mosaic of habitats present on Tetlin Refuge. There is also a direct relationship between fire, predator, and prey. Information on small mammal diversity and relative abundance is essential to understanding the relationships between post-fire seral stages and the relative abundance of associated predators.
