Fishing Event at Sachuest Point Refuge Is a Splashing Success

For many visitors, getting an up-close look at live Atlantic salmon, courtesy of the North Attleboro National Fish Hatchery, was a highlight. For others, it was the fly-tying demonstrations and the chance to talk with members of the local surf-fishing club.

Although blustery weather conditions and the threat of heavy rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Ophelia caused some activities to be cancelled, the Second Annual Take a Kid Fishing Event held at Sachuest Point National Wildlife was still a great success. An estimated 200 people enjoyed the fishing-oriented displays and children's activities, including fish T-shirt painting, that were offered inside the refuge visitor center with the help of many volunteers and several partners on Saturday, September 17.

The Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island generously provided hot dogs and other free refreshments.
