Calco Dam notching
Northeast Region, July 29, 2005
Print Friendly Version
A notch was placed in the Calco dam, in the Raritan River, New Jersey to provide for anadromous fish passage. The Delaware River Coordinator's office received funding to assist the state of New Jersey in widening an exisitng 5 foot wide notch in Calco dam, in the Raritan River. There is an existing notch in the dam, but it is not adequate to allow passage of all anadromous fish. This project widened the exisitng notch by 10 feet, to a total of 15 feet, which opened an additional 6 miles of American shad spawning habitat. The project was completed in July, 2005.
