West Texas Office assists in Ranching and Wildlife Economics Workshop
Southwest Region, August 25, 2005
Print Friendly Version
John Hughes of the West Texas Suboffice assisted in the development and implementation of a ranching and wildlife economics workshop held in Hemphill County. Participating agencies included Texas Cooperative Extension (TCE), Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Texas Prairie Rivers Region, Inc. (TPRRI), and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The workshop included a discussion of changing demographics and its effect on land ownership in Texas, a primer on ranching economics and land values, and an introduction to hunting and non-consumptive uses of wildlife as additional sources of income for landowners. Mr. Hughes served on a panel with representatives from TCE, TPWD, and TPRRI that fielded questions from interested landowners, and gave a short presentation on the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program. A total of 25 private landowners attended the event.
