Arlington Field Office coordinates on habitat restoration at Army Reserve Center
Southwest Region, July 20, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Arlington Ecological Services? Field Supervisor, Tom Cloud, and Federal Activities Coordinator, Carol Hale, conducted a project review/site visit at the 90th Regional Support Command, U.S. Army Reserve Center (USARC) in Seagoville, Texas on July 20, 2005. The Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP) and Environmental Assessment for this facility were completed in September 2003. Several projects included in Phase I of the habitat restoration plan of the INRMP have been completed. These projects are: recontouring and planting of 450 feet along the shoreline of a 2.01-acre artesian flow pond to establish an emergent wetland and enhance biodiversity; construction of a berm and installation of a water control gate, and planting of 4 to 5 acres of native vegetation to create a wetland prairie area; modification of the mowing regime on 83.5 acres of wet native prairie; and installation of a water control gate to create a ½ acre seasonally flooded moist soil impoundment. The USARC will be monitoring these projects for their success. Preparation and planting of 69.1 acres of old field into a native Tallgrass Prairie Community is planned for August and September 2005.
