Initial Meeting of the Alligator Snapping Turtle Work Group
Southwest Region, July 19, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Due to the continuing decline in alligator snapping turtle populations, staff from Tishomingo National Fish Hatchery met on July 19, 2005, with personnel from Sequoyah and Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuges, Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery, Tulsa Ecological Services Field Office, and Oklahoma State University to initiate discussions on forming an Alligator Snapping Turtle Work Group. The results of this first meeting included compilation of a list of potential partners, reports of research findings, and scheduling and outlining research projects for 2006. Efforts were also initiated to form a draft Conservation Agreement with a tentative completion date in early 2006. Potential funding sources were discussed and assigned to various group members to pursue.
