Central Texas Sustainability Partnership holds initial meeting
Southwest Region, July 19, 2005
Print Friendly Version
On July 19, 2005, staff from the Arlington Field Office attended the initial meeting of the Central Texas Sustainability Partnership (Partnership) at Fort Hood, Texas. The Partnership, inaugurated in a ceremony earlier this year, is a collaborative effort between the military, federal and state governments, private landowners, and non-governmental organizations to conserve habitat for the endangered golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo on private land. The Partnership provides incentives for private landowners to restore, enhance, and preserve habitat for these species. The meeting involved discussions on the formation of a charter and the possible implementation of the Army Compatible Use Buffer Initiative to further the Partnership's goals. Other Partnership entities in attendance included the Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, The Nature Conservancy, Environmental Defense, Central Texas Cattlemen's Association, Texas Wildlife Association, and Department of the Army.
