Journal Entry   Back AK MARITIME: Senator Murkowski Visits Islands & Ocean Visitor Center Alaska Region, July 8, 2005 Print Friendly Version Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski was the latest in a parade of distinguished guests to tour the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge's Islands & Ocean Visitor Center. Senator Murkowski spent a couple of hours in the facility touring the exhibits and offices, charming the staff and volunteers with her gracious manner, discussing invasive species issues with Supervisory Biologist Vernon Byrd, and holding a press conference for local press in the Refuge conference room. Senator Murkowski remarked that she had seen the center during early construction and was very impressed with how it had turned out. She said, "This is a federal project done right."
