KENAI: Refuge Exchanges Management Information with Israel
Alaska Region, July 15, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Kenai National Wildlife Refuge staff met with Dr.Omri Bonneh, Director of Forestry for Israel, for a scheduled international meeting to exchange management information. Dr.Omri was visiting the United States with his family and after an internet search chose several locations that were of most interest to him to help develop programs in his country. Kenai was high on the list. Topics of interest included fire management, public use issues, and wildlife viewing. Dr. Omri was especially interested in how national wildlife refuges manage for special viewing opportunities, specifically for cranes. His management issues were remarkably similar to those in the United States. Kenai also received benefit from the exchange in learning about some unique land management practices in Northern Israel and some useful administrative reporting processes.
